Platform fees explained
How Luma Market’s fees work for makers: what’s deducted, what isn’t, and how your money reaches your bank.
Last updated
Luma Market charges a 7% platform fee on each sale. That’s how we keep the lights on and keep building.
How it works
When a shopper pays for your listing:
- The payment goes to your own account with our payment provider (Stripe).
- The provider takes its processing fee, and Luma’s 7% is deducted, before the funds reach you.
- The rest is yours.
The payment provider handles the deduction. There’s nothing to do manually and nothing to invoice.
What the fee is charged on
The item and the postage together, not the item alone.
What the fee covers
- Paying out your earnings on schedule
- Handling issues, returns and fraud
- Building and running the platform
- Support for makers and shoppers
Are there listing fees?
You can have up to 10 active listings at no cost. There’s no listing fee: you pay the 7% commission only when something sells. Publishing your first listing covers what counts toward the limit.
Is there VAT on the commission?
No. Luma Market Ltd isn’t VAT registered, so our commission carries no VAT at the moment. If that changes we’ll tell you before it does.
Your payment provider’s own fees
Card processing is 1.5% + 20p on a UK card, charged by the payment provider. It comes out of the sale before our commission, and none of it reaches Luma. A card issued outside the UK costs more (2.5% + 20p in the EEA, 3.15% + 20p elsewhere), so your take-home on those orders is a little lower.
That makes it part of working out your take-home, and the example further down has it in. Your earnings history on the Finances page shows it for each order, beside the commission, so the order total less both comes to what you received.
There are no payout fees.
Refunds
Refund a shopper and our platform fee is reversed with it. You’re never charged commission on a sale that didn’t stand.
The processing fee is the exception. The payment provider keeps what it charged on the original payment, so a refunded order still costs you what it cost to take the card. That’s their policy rather than ours.
Example
At the standard 7% fee:
| Item | Postage | Luma fee | Card processing | You receive |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| £20.00 | £0.00 | £1.40 | £0.50 | £18.10 |
| £20.00 | £3.50 | £1.65 | £0.55 | £21.30 |
| £50.00 | £4.50 | £3.82 | £1.02 | £49.66 |
| £100.00 | £0.00 | £7.00 | £1.70 | £91.30 |
Getting paid
An order’s money is released when your shopper confirms it arrived, or 7 days after we count it as delivered if nobody does. So it’s worth asking your shopper to confirm: it’s the quickest way to get paid.
From there it goes out monthly, on the 1st, or on request once a month from £5.00.
When you get paid walks one order through from sale to bank, and covers commissions and what happens when a refund lands after you’ve been paid.
